The cassette player and recorder from France s We Are Rewind is a strikingly modern iteration of the classic Walkman portable tape player. The weight surprised us – with its all-aluminum casing, it looks and feels like what the first or second generation Walkman might have felt like; probably too big and heavy to keep in your back pocket like the later models, but cool in a retro way, with a hefty build that justifies the price point. It exhibited a much wider playback frequency range than other portable cassette players we tested (30-12.5k Hz versus 40-11k) with less distortion, and the recording function is simple and straightforward (note: record input signal will not be audible from the player s output while recording, but we had no problem monitoring our input directly from the source). Bluetooth output to wireless speakers or headphones is a nice modern feature, making this a versatile and stylish option for adding a cassette player to your home listening setup with a very small footprint.
